From the start, Pages places you in the perfect creative environment. It puts all the right tools in all the right places, so it’s easy to choose a look, customize fonts, personalize text styles, and add beautiful graphics. And everyone collaborating on a document has access to the same powerful features.
Spell check in iWork and TextEdit Pages, the word processing and page layout program included with iWork, has a feature that can check your spelling as you type. A similar feature is available in TextEdit. Apple's Mac OS X has a built-in spell check function available in many text-oriented apps, including Pages, Notes and Stickies. Web browsers such as Safari and Chrome also have this feature. You can set spell check to work automatically as you type or use it on command from the menu. Autocorrect in Pages for Mac is disabled through an app-specific setting, adjustable through a menu toggle: Open Pages as usual then go to the “Edit” menu Scroll down to “Spelling and Grammar” submenu and choose “Check Spelling Automatically” so that it becomes unchecked.

Most of the time Spell check can't give the right suggestion if more than one character is wrong, missing or to many. I find that spell check can see it might be a wrongly spelled word though. If it can't see it a a wrongly spelled word it is a problem. Better tell apple when you find word like that but make sure you tell them which language you find the problem in. There are several versions of english you know. I wold use this page http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html as Spell checking is a system feature and not a specific Pages or Safari feature.
